5 out of 5 stars Lots Of Fun And Worth The Effort To Find   October 23, 2003

Amazon has two CD singles listed, this one with three mixes and another out-of-stock one with five mixes. This CD contains what I think are the two best mixes: Radio Mix and Deep Dish Mars Attacks Mix. Both mixes are found on both CDs. My favorite is the Deep Dish Mix.

This grabbed me the first time I heard it. The Deep Dish Mix is about 9 minutes long, and often that can mean some tedious interludes in the music. Not so on this one. The generous sampling of Bernard Herrmann's eerie music from the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still", combined with Kelis' vocals and, of course, the beat, make this one cool selection. This is a stand out because of the Bernard Herrmann music.

If you are unfamiliar with this movie composer, Hitchcock used him for several movie scores (e.g. "North By Northwest", "Vertigo"), as did Orson Welles (e.g. "Citizen Kane") and he even wrote the music for TV's "Lost In Space" and "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea". Herrmann's music used in Timo Maas' mixes adds immeasurably to the overall experience. It's a classic 1950s sci-fi sound used throughout that decade to instill an ominous tone as something is about to happen. Same goes for this Deep Dish mix. Kelis' vocals are a perfect match, as if she is the heroine in an audio sci-fi adventure, pleading with the listener to help her.

As for purchasing this CD, when I tried to purchase through Amazon in Sept. 2003, it was back ordered a month. After waiting a month, it was back ordered again for another month. That was enough for me to check out the option near the top of this page where it notes "5 used & new" copies available for sale by others. Click on there and you should find a new copy available from "alphacraze.com". I purchased from alphacraze, for the first time, and was very pleased. It was fast, easy and a bit cheaper than Amazon. After waiting nearly 5 weeks for my Amazon order, which was then back ordered again, alphacraze.com got the CD to me within three business days. Go for it if you like this. It's worth it.

4 out of 5 stars Kelis does wonderful vocals   April 2, 2003

I'm not too much into Timo Maas his stuff, but I gotta admit that this track is the bomb. Kelis her vocals are wonderful, the samples are just right and the whole atmosphere is bewitching. Really sensual, a bit creepy, very danceable and a kick [...] video !

The radio edit is great, because of the song. My complaint about it is that it's just a tadd too short. One or a half minute longer and it would have been perfect.

The Deep Dish Attacks Mars remix is fabulous. The song starts out with some samples that are similar to those used in another dance song ( forgot the name ) and immediatly set for a creepy tone. This remix is quite lengthy, but not boring.

Then there is also the remix by Kamanchi, a project from DJ's Krust and Die. It takes the song to another sound, namely drum and bass. And it works ! Also quite lengthy and good for one of those sweaty drum 'n' bass parties where everyone is dancing. Good choice here.

And finally there is the beautiful animated video.
