Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
TDK 4.7GB DVD-R media offers the widest compatibility with computer drives and home DVD players. Ideal for general purpose recording, a single TDK DVD-R has ample capacity for thousands of digital photos, up to 6 hours of video data files. Each DVD-R disc can be fully recorded once. TDK metallic alloys change between crystalline and amorphous states in response to the heat generated by a laser for phase-change recording. The differences in reflectivity exhibited by the alloy in its crystalline and amorphous states are read as data. TDK alloys are designed for the most precise laser response, resulting in perfect data marks and superior recording and playback performance.

I only had 1 of 100 discs that gave me the old bad media message so I figure 99% is worth a five star rating.

5 out of 5 stars Great Quality on Blank Media   October 13, 2008

I barely find a coaster on the TDK DVD-R's. It is as par as with the Maxells, Sony's, Verbatims and RiDatas that I have used before. I am just trying to stay away from unknown brands that is kind of a hit or miss. The thing with DVD's or CD's is that when you find a bad one, it seems to be bunched into the same stack as they were manufactured at the same place and at the same time. My recommendation is not to burn DVDs or CDs using the maximum speed, the chance of a bad burn tend to be much much less if you use the next slower speed indicated on the media. Same as filling up the data capacity, 4200mb seems to work best for me as filling up the DVD to the edge may become problematic.

2 out of 5 stars Major disappointment   March 10, 2008

After using the DVD+RW format with both Maxell and Memorex, I decided to give these a try, and maybe save a few bucks in the process. I should have spent the extra money and gotten what had already worked for me.
These have been a real pain in the neck. Either they won't work at all, or they can't be read after having been recorded on, or won't allow me to record after they have been recorded on (BEFORE finalizing). I subsequently tried some Memorex and Maxell DVD+RW, just to make sure it wasn't my recorder; they gave me no problems at all.
I have used some of these TDK DVD-R successfully, but 2 out of 5 good burns is not satisfactory. Maybe I just got a bad batch....but this is my first experience with TDK; it will probably be my last.
