St etienne and PVD November 3, 2006 Lovblad (Geneva, Switzerland) If you like paul van Dyk and St Etienne, as I do then this is the stuff for you. The music is the usual great techno that PVD is known for, even if it of slightly higher standard than usual. The addition of Sara Cracknell is simply great aas her vocal style is perfect fo this kind of music.
Good single March 20, 2006 Alberto E. P. Garcia (BR) "Tell Me Why (The Riddle)" is one of Paul van Dyk's best original compositions. Featuring the angelical vocals of Saint Etienne's Sarah Cracknell, this was one of the singles off _Out there and back_, though this version of the song is not the one that appears on that CD! (and that is what makes this item even more valuable). I gave it 4 stars because the remixes are OK but not great. If you like melodic trance with beautiful vocals, buy this and I'm sure you won't regret it.
PVDs first single from out there and back November 18, 2003 Claudio Rene Cepeda (san antonio, TX) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This has to be one of the best songs that PVD has made. The vocals by the St. Etienne singer are fantastic and very rhythmic. The club mix is the best mix with the PVD mix equally good. This CD also has the video of the song which is kind of mind altering with the images shown in the video. It is a great video. A must have for PVD fans.
A Must for PVD Fans September 27, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A great CD with great remixes. Some may feel that having a contiuous single hurts the mixes but it makes them even better. Favorite mix is the PVD Mix. If you enjoy that mix, but don't enjoy the length, there is a shorter (possibly better) version of it on Altered States Vol 1 by Andy Hughes.
If it makes people seek out 'So Tough'... November 19, 2001 darragh o'donoghue (dublin, ireland) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
It seems a shame that no matter how many heart-aching melodies, detective trails through pop's byways and affecting production innovations Saint Etienne throw at a deaf world, it's only by lowering their standards that they can expect a major hit. Paul Van Dyk's 'Tell me why' is amiable enough in a repetitive pop-trancey way, and the second, 'PVD' mix is pleasingly dark, while Sarah Cracknell's conversation-immediate vocals add much needed heart. But Stanley and Wiggs are completely sidelined. It's no 'Avenue'.
