5 out of 5 stars A genuine look at a living legend in the world of electronic music   September 20, 2008
music fan (Dallas, TX)
This DVD is a very down-to-earth, yet fascinating look into the day-to-day lifestyle of one of the most iconic individuals in the world of electronic music. The multiple perspectives of family, friends, producers, musicians, and DJs is interesting to see come uniquely together in this piece. What I particularly liked about this is that it covers areas of Oakenfold's life that are not so well documented but also goes into avenues that are known but never really been seen behind the scenes. What you see is that dance culture is a global community and Paul has done a tremendous amount of pioneering to pave the way for others. There is no pompousness in this documentary - the fact that these other world-reknowned DJs/producers speak so highly is testament to the massive influence he has had on the sound worldwide.

With electronic and, in particular, dance-oriented, music becoming more prevalent in the media, TV, film, games, etc. this DVD will provide an inspiring story of one of the greatest creative minds who has done it all and continues to innovate as the global network evolves into expansive areas of digital entertainment and new media. Oakenfold will no doubt continue to be a force that is at the leading edge of that evolution.

1 out of 5 stars Pompous Piece of....   December 17, 2007

First, if you have Greatest Hits and Remixes, you can find a shorter version of this dvd in the bonus dvd of the package. Yes, the concert is shorter by about 30 minutes and thats a good thing because the music is barely heard over the crowd noise and cheering during the songs....that's right, we are made to believe the audience just can't contain themselves. In addition to that, the show was filmed during the day, so you can barely see the visuals in the background and again, the crowd makes for a bad distraction from the music. This is really too bad as there has been some interesting things PO has done with orchestras that has been filmed, why couldn't we get that?

The documentary is better if you are into that, but there is a lot of chest-thumping here that takes away from the sincerity of an artist. And its not enough to take away from the first half of the dvd, we don't even get a music video (or the making of one as was done with Faster Kill Pussycat).

If you must really have the long documentary then go for it, but get the
Greatest Hits and Remixes first before you put your money down on this.
