Massively overhyped April 8, 2008 Restilli (Florida, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Fluoro is a decent collection, but that's it. Being generous, it's not bad by modern standards, and I thought I was prepared for that level of awesomeness before I bought it. Let's just say I was underwhelmed. I thought I might get at least some nostalgia or retro feel from it (if anything made in 1996 can be "retro" is for another debate), but that didn't pan out either. You'd be better served by listening to some Astral Projection or Juno Reactor from the same time period.
The high cost of Fluoro is another nail in the coffin, but even if it were under ten dollars (like most CDs of this vintage), I still wouldn't purchase it again after having listened to it. If you're just getting into Oakenfold, purchase Tranceport or Journeys (as another reviewer mentioned) instead.
Truly Beautiful May 5, 2004 michael m. (Toronto, Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This compilation is one of the most moving collections of music that I've heard. It's power are emotion are matched to such treasures as Pet Sounds. You may be initially turned off by the price but don't be. If purchased, this cd set will become a favorite, one that you will not grow tired of in time. I owned this cd and made the mistake of sharing it with a friend. Needless to say the cds were never returned. I searched for over a year to replace it. Unfortunately no one was stocking it. Its great to see that Amazon.com now has it in their catelogues. Buy it before it disappears forever!!!
Not for all Trance lovers. Only for die-hard Oakenfold fans. January 29, 2004 OverTheMoon (overthemoonreview@hotmail.com) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is very early Trance/Techno that is mixed well but not as well as some of Oakenfold's better works like Tranceport (his best CD to date) or Great Wall (His 2nd best). This is more industrial club DJ music that is fast trance, with lots of very early beeps and beats. I would only recommend this one if you are a die-hard Oakenfold fan or if you want to listen to some fast trance with lots of fast drums. It does not really peak as much as his better CDs and certainly is devoid of the magic, but there is a DJ in the making here. This may have been good for its time but there is a lot better Oakenfold out there (and some worse ones!) when all is said and done. This is very fast and early and not the best Oakenfold you can start with. I certainly recommend Tranceport over this one or Great Wall and prefer those CDs to this one but as you can see die-hard lovers of Oakenfold will rate this CD highly. I would not recommend starting here though.
The best blend of classical and electronica ever. December 13, 2003 Mr. Ik Johns (Wales, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was fortunate enough to get this first time around in the UK (The 2 disc version), where it failed to sell many copies on release unfortunately. But it is probbaly my most played album over the past few years. The true talent of Oakenfold shines through here, as both a mixer and also as an ear for great music. The way the music flows from beautiful classical score to deep and thoughtful trance and back again has never been bettered. This is one of the few albums that I would say is beautiful, perfect for listening to in a darkened room or with your eyes closed. I am even more impressed now as a number of these artists were not even household names in their own house at the time. The brilliant Astral Projection, Transa, Y Traxx and Man With No Name steal the show in my opinion but the album in quality from start to finish. Disc 1 starts in chill out mode and regularly returns there in between some very cool sections of Goa and Trance. Disc 2 is slightly harder overall but starts out with the achingly beautiful chimes of Zbigniew Preisner (Craven Leaves), quite possibly one of the most eerily beautiful tunes I've heard in a long long time. Just out of inteest here is the full track listing (with artist). Disc 1 01 H.H.C. - We're Not Alone 02 Ryuichi Sakamoto (Duplicate) - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence 03 Y Traxx - Mystery Land 04 Red Sun - This Love 05 Ryuichi Sakamoto (Duplicate) - Little Buddha 06 Man With No Name - Teleport 07 Terrorvision - Conspiracy 08 Man With No Name - Sugar Rush 09 Eric Serra - Cute Name 10 State Of Emergency - Banks Of Babylon 11 Juno Reactor - Jungle High 12 Ennio Morricone - Miserere 13 Virus - Moon 14 Grace - If I Could Fly 15 Our House - Floor Space Disc 2 01 Zbigniew Preisner - Craven Leaves 02 Johann - New Kicks 03 Samuel Barber - Adagio For Strings 04 Astral Projection - Kabalah 05 Wojciech Kilar - Love Remembered 06 Transa - Prophase 07 X-Section - Atlantis 08 Bjoerk & David Arnold - Play Dead 09 Ozaka OZ - Real Nightmare 10 Legend B - Lost In Love 11 Jamie Myerson - Revisions Truely inspiring, I only wish that there were more like this. 5 out of 5 in any language. I know I paid only 25 for this (about $25) at the time, but it really is worth the $48 or whatever it is these days. You will never regret it.
One of Oakie's Best by far! July 23, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my 6th addition to my ever growing Oakenfold collection and fuels my ambitions to keep it growing. Fluoro is rated at the top of my collection along with all other Oakie albums i've acquired. The Trance and Break Beats mixed with the Ambience gives this album a balanced fulfillment of what Oakenfold is capable of. I have yet to be disappointed. Five Stars!!!!
