Mehdi's Instrumental Paradise July 30, 2008 Mike Smith 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
With this offering, Mehdi manages to invoke the paradox of simultaneously sounding both ancient and modern. Actually, much of what he produces is like that, but maybe a bit more so with this album. It is entrancing, and if you follow along, your stress level is sure to be bumped down several notches. I have two other Mehdi titles which I can recommend, and I think these three are the best of the bunch. Be sure to check out Volumes 4 and 7 in addition to 8. They are quite possibly the best of Mehdi's work.
Uniquely Enjoyable and dream like ! July 13, 2008 J. M. Breyer (La Jolla, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I first listened to Mehdi when my mother bought it. I always loved it because it was so smooth, gentle, relaxing, and yet some songs were just exciting and overall they just seemed to give a taste of the exotic. Each song is different from the other, but just as good as what comes before and after. If you feel like something relaxing and different, this CD is for you.
I LOVE THEM ALL. July 13, 2008 Dana Piero (Aurora, IL) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I first heard a sample of one of the tracks from a streaming audio website. It was the first time I had heard this music and it was enough to convince me that it was to be my new favorite artist. The music has the same timeless quality as Vangelis, but whereas the latter contains mostly synthesized instruments, his has a full blown instrumental ensemble utilizing all kinds of Acoustic and exotic instruments. It's a cross between Loreena Mckinett and Secret Garden with a touch of Yanni, but much better in my opinion.
The first track is an upbeat and energetic tune while still keeping within the confines of the genre. The track "Connecting Prayer" is beautiful if a bit overlong but is good enough to sustain your interest especially while driving. "Utopian Dance" has a climactic and exotic flavor which offers great diversity and helps carry the melodic mood created up till then. The final track is my favorite. It has to be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. The piano and Guitar reach such an emotional depth that you will find yourself listening to it all over again. All in all, this is a superb album for fans of Contemporary Instrumental or for those with an appreciation for well produced and well performed melodic music.
I had previously purchased the entire set and loved each CD so much that I had to have this new one. All of Medhi's instrumentals are really grand and although it's unusual for me, somehow it's hard to just pick one as a favorite over the others. I truly love them all.
Another gem July 13, 2008 Eva Jordan (Great Britian) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is just a superbly talented artist. All of their albums are hauntingly beautiful. I must say that this isn't my favorite, but when you love every single one of their albums, picking a favorite can be difficult.
Some of the music sounds Middle Eastern, while some is clearly Neo Classical and even Celtic at times. Some sounds almost new age, some sounds very contemporary. It is very much balanced on all of the CDs and they never repeat any songs.
This particular album has already enjoyed quite a bit of mainstream success which I believe their previous albums didn't. (Which is a shame!) I have actually heard the song "Eternal Bliss" on the radio a few times, much to my delight! I almost am sad at the same time, because it is almost like only a select few have discovered these hidden treasures.
I cannot recommend this music highly enough. I would pay for it again if anything happened to one of our two copies. (We have doubles of all their CD's. A benefit to combining two households!)
Listen to this CD. Go somewhere quiet and sit and just listen. You'll be able to SEE the music.
