Editorial Reviews:

In listening to Moby's collection of early work and rare remixes, it's clear the diversity of this man's wax was in full effect long before the gospel field recordings of last year's wonderful Play came to the fore. Little pieces of dialogue mingle with gigantic house beats and snippets from sources forever unknown, twisting through songs like the downbeat "UHF" with serpentine ease. His grasp of structure was much different then, however, as these mixes can wander a bit--especially in the hour-plus worth of "Go" remixes he offers up on the second disc. Still, this is a worthy excursion for Moby fans and those who appreciate techno with a little range. --Matthew Cooke

1 out of 5 stars only way to get his Dust Mix   November 29, 2006

I had to hear Time's Up (Dust Mix) from a P to P download (unfortunately @ 128kb) and got fixated on it's trippy groove. I can't really stand any Moby stuff, but this one had me hooked and I had to have it.

I'll leave the rest to Moby fans.

4 out of 5 stars This is what Moby was and should be   January 15, 2006
T. Gore (Neu Joisy)
I am not thrilled at all with the direction that Moby has went over the years. I am happy though to see such a small time artist has been able to be successful on the pop charts, and he still is creating music that is unique and different, but this is when Moby was strictly techno. The song "1000" is reason to get this alone, as the song gets up to an unbelievable 1000 beats per minute. Dont be fooled by at all just because this says Moby on it. Even it you hate Moby's newer work, you have to have this in your collection if you are a fan of old school techno. ENJOY

5 out of 5 stars Early Moby, how I love thee.   December 28, 2002

A great mix of electronic genius Moby's early remixes and b-sides. Virtually every genre of dance is collected here, from the classic rave track "GO! (rainforest mix)", the odd electronica "UHF 2", to acid-club fan favourite "Have you seen my baby (baby mix)". Also contains the fastest song ever recorded, "Thousand", topping in at an insane 1034 bpm. (I've tried to make super fast songs, but nowhere need that speed! All my programs stop at 999 bpm!). Hard, odd, but loveable, "Thousand" is one of my fave Moby tracks. Sure, some of the beats sound a bit dated, but what can you expect from dance songs made from 1989-1993? The bonus disc, I feel, is better than "Rare". I just love to play this album from start to finish, and listen to it again, and again!

BEST TRACKS: UHF 2, Thousand, Go (Rainforest, Arpathoski and Amphetamix Mixes)
WORST TRACKS: Hard to choose... none are really bad, but some do sound a bit dated, and some of the voice samples do REALLY annoy me, but nothing stands out as bad!

4 out of 5 stars A near flawless collection   August 24, 2001
MIKEY (New Haven, Ct United States)
This is one very good collection for big Moby fans and completists.Disc 1 collects all the essential mixes of the mega-hit Go.The mix is continuous and adventurous. You can literally hear all the dance genres mixed in the tracks,Ambient,Tro-hop,Acid,House,etc.The best one I think is the Woodtick mix.Very fast and hard! Disc 2 collects some of his very hard to find or otherwise deleted tracks. Some of the tracks are better sounding here than on his Early Underground cd.Especially I feel it,Have you seen my baby?,and Next to the e.Best tracks on here I think.Overall it is a good set to have if you don't want to hunt down the singles separately and spend lots of money.

4 out of 5 stars Mostly What You Would Expect With B-Sides But...   May 26, 2001

This album has some killer re-mixes and that in some cases are better than the original version. Specifically, songs like Next Is the E, Have You Seen my Baby, and Drop a Beat. It also contains one of the most jarring tracks ever in Thousand, which according to the Guiness Book of World Records, is the fastest song ever recorded. Needless to say, it probably won't be one that you would want to listen over and over to. The remixes of Go are good at first, but then they sorta become bland, but then again there are 14 different versions here. The Rainforest mix is my favorite version of Go, and the In Dub mix was my least favorite.

Should you pick this album up? Most definitely if you're a fan of Moby or of techno. Yes, there's some weak stuff here, so it's not going be another Play, Everything Is Wrong, or I Like to Score. It's more like Moby but with more filler, and it's probably a better album than about 85% of the stuff that's out there now.
