Amazon.com Santa Cruz product Miguel Migs gently but firmly tears the roof off with 24th St Sounds, his latest example of the sunny, uptempo chill music known as "deep" house. As practiced by Migs, Ben Watt, King Britt and others, the style takes the raunch of classic house and replaces it with a polished cocktail vibe, creating a hybrid your parents might even enjoy. Not to say that it doesn't kick; 24th St Sounds is a smooth ride, but it's also a relentless--and fantastic--dance record. Migs knows how to blend, and his positive energy would sound just as good in a grimy New York basement club as it would at a Riviera beach bash. He starts hot, leaving the soft melodies in the background on floor stompers like "Waiting." After a slight lull, he picks up again for the luminous "You Can't Stop," and backs off with the spare, borderline electro of Trevor Lovey's "The Bounce." The second disc, culled from Migs's studio catalog, sounds more thrown together and lacks disc 1's drive and cohesion. But really, it's hard to get too much of 24th St Sounds, as long as you're in a good mood (or won't mind being put into one). --Matthew Cooke
Album Description At the forefront of dance music's deeper realm, stands Miguel Migs - personifying the chilled-out, soul-driven vibe. Combining the best of both the electronic music world with live instrumentation, he creates an organic-soulful touch to his original productions and remixes. In the past few years alone, Miguel has quietly put out more than 90 quality, original cuts and remixes on seminal independent labels like Naked Music, Yoshitoshi, NRK, Black Vinyl, Large, Chez, and Transport. All of which have made waves sliding into the record bags of top deep house DJs across the globe, hit DJ hype charts of international media, and found their way onto numerous compilations. Miguel has since found himself on the remixer A-list of dance music's top record labels and producers, not to mention his remixes for superstar artists like Macy Gray, Lionel Richie and Britney Spears. As a DJ, Miguel maintains the same elements to his sets, as to his productions. Combining a variety of influences and styles fused together. Funky, Deep, soulful, bumping house music. Miguel currently can be found regularly traveling the globe as one of the industries top-leading DJ's, as well as at home in the studio creating music, which is his main love and passion.

Deep moving sound of many emotions December 20, 2008 Marianne McDermott (Lacombe, LA USA) This music is heavenly! I am totally into instrumentals of this type. They bring you to a different place and emotions can arise through these masterpieces of sound and expression. Miguel Migs can really deliver on this kind of "new age" style. Very expressive and soothing!!! I really love "Secrets" and "Satisfied"! The experience is mind-blowing. I thought I would never hear this kind of music again. Keep it up!!!
like deep house, but this is weak August 26, 2008 Big T (7 minutes in the future) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Weak songs. I like deep house, and there are different variations on it so when I say this has a gay parade sound to it that's the description. Not my cup of tea.
Instant classic that you must have in your collection July 18, 2008 M. Sandoval (Bay Area, CA) Miguel Migs got me excited about house music a few years ago and have been a huge fan since.
THE HEART OF THE CITY IS ON 24TH STREET October 30, 2007 Patrick Frierson In addition to my classic r&b and jazz albums, I've been getting deep into contemporary house music. 24th street sounds stayed in my truck stereo all summer and it was my ultimate soundtrack throughout the season. The boomin sounds comin' from this disc are the sounds you would expect to hear in a major downtown city on a warm summer day. picture twenty somethings like myself crusin' the Boulevard lookin' for some action that's hotter than the wheater. You may end up at the the beach, a picnic, play a few games (tennis, basketball, volleybal, etc.), enjoy the sights of the meticulously crafted business buildings ,and maybe hit the club later on that evening. You may grab a few #'s in the process. 24th street sounds comes off as the ultimate soundtrack for the perfect summer day. The atmosphere of the music incites adventure and Miguel migs has a versatile set of beats to match the adventurous nature of those who's lookin for fun under the sun.
Disc One is flawless as Miguel Migs is able to mix a wide array of sounds over the steady 4/4 beat. He's one of the best mixers on the scene and he has an ear for seamlessly blending grooves based on sounds and textures. This guaranteed that his mixin' doesn't sound sloppy. Standouts are "Sonia Unica", "Sunrise", and "One Two, One Two". "The Bounce" got one of the hottest beats on set but it's too short! Realistically all of the tracks are tighter than the skimpiest bikinis! Simply put the first disc is all thriller no filler!
Disc two covers a collection of tracks he produced for NRK and it's OK. Unfortuneately, Miguel Migs is not as eclectic as a producer as he is a DJ. Too many of these tracks sound the same but, their are a few tracks that break away from the homogenous pacing. "Cuban Nights' is a smooth carribean styled banga while "Lionel's Jam" and "Make a change" has elastic synth touches powering the grooves. Other than that it's business as usual, and much like a business meeting at work, it may bore you to if you listen to too much of it!
Still, the sameness of the second disc doesn't stop 24th Street Sounds from being one of the tightest house albums to come out in the last few years. If the second disc had the level of variety of the first, I would've gave it five stars. Yet again, if you're not working and you have some time to play, you'll be hard pressed not to put this CD one and let it play!
Miguel's rockin' downtown sounds September 30, 2006 A. J. M. Mcdonald (the hague) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
With 24th Street Sounds, master mixer miguel migs goes for broke and pumps up the volume. There are some absolutely electric tracks on this double disc, in particular the remedy, one two one two, waiting, don't change, the bounce, making moves and bump selecta. Make plenty of room in your collection for some big sounds
