Rob Roy Soundtrack is wonderful! August 14, 2005 Rachael R. Wallace (TX, USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am an avid listener of classical music and soundtracks. Rob Roy is one of the soundtracks that are worth the buy, if you are interested in the celtic soothing sounds of Scotland. I encourage you to buy this soundtrack, you will enjoy it's sounds.
Excellent November 23, 2004 W. de Jong (The Netherlands) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you like sad, but also romantic music, this is it. The soundtrack could be categorized together with Danny Elfman's Sommersby, although this score is more emotional.
Since many music fans do not have a certain dark melancholy inside, they discard this score as mediocre or even bad... IT IS PERFECT! There is deep romance (not superficial, although at first this may sound so...), haunting drama (Troops in the Mist and Honor Inflamed), realistic action music that even reaches heartbreaking emotion (Rannoch Moor Suite) and an "end of evil" cue for Cunningham (Love and Death Suite)...! This score was overlooked thanks to James Horner's Braveheart.
Rob Roy and Fargo are Burwell's best works, both emotional and dark, with a romantic twist in Rob Roy and with a comical twist in Fargo.
Keep listening to these scores and they will strike you as musical gems!
Pretty Soundtrack by Carter Burwell June 23, 2004 hille2000 (USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Carter Burwell's score to ROB ROY is pretty good. I did not care that much for the movie, but Burwell's score is very good. He did his homework and it shows or should I say sounds.
Burwell once again misses June 11, 2004 3 out of 16 found this review helpful
Carter Burwell's soundtrack music to "Rob Roy" was an early sign that he was not just getting it right. The score is all wrong but so is the movie. This movie needed an uplifting score. Carter Burwell could not deliver it.
Gle Bhreagha! Tha gradh agamsa seo ceol! September 9, 2003 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
O, Cho milis seo ceol tha do m'anam. Bha Raibeard Ruadh iontach 'gus tha fhios ormsa air e! 'S sin oran sheinn le Cairein Mhatheson, Ailein Duinn... O, cho breagha...'s cho bronach cuideachd. Tha eachdraidh gle bhronach aig nas Albannaiche, tha fhios orm... ach tha mi sona gun tha fhios oirnn air sin eachdraidh. Uill... Bha gradh agam do seo ceol... agus Alba. Smaoinichaidh mi dhiot, Alba, agus de do bheatha 's ceol. Bidh gradh agaibhse do seo ceol! Alba gu bradh! (O, so sweet this music is to my soul. Robert Roy was a wonder and I know it! And the song sung by Karen Matheson, Dark(-haired) Allan... O, so beautiful... and so sad too. The Scots have such a sad history, I know... but I'm happy that we know that history. Well... I will love this music...and Scotland. I will think of thee, Scotland, and of thy life and music. You will love this music! Scotland forever!
