| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Reissuing old dance records can be dicey, because so many of them don't age well. There are exceptions, of course, like this digitally spiffed up and beautifully packaged, 3-disc Renaissance collection from Sasha and John Digweed. Released originally in 1994, it's become a milestone representing not only the celebrated duo's first recorded mix but also a snapshot of British dance at its raving, glorious peak. Disc 1 opens with a triplet of Leftfield's "Song for Life" and moves through still-potent tracks from Disco Evangelists ("De Niro") and F. Machine ("Child Bride"). The run continues on discs 2 and 3, as it lightly glides through Fluke's "Slide" and EMF's "They're Here." And what would a trip down amnesia lane be without a stop at Moby's "Go"? Nostalgia only goes so far, and some songs that sounded great at the time are a little soft now (see "Not Over Yet"). But that innocence gets at the heart of the collection's appeal, reminding us of when dance music seemed primed to take over the planet. -Matthew Cooke
Album Description MixMag voted Renaissance: The Mix Collection the #1 mix CD of all time, stating, "For many it was the first mix compilation they bought and, for us, it remains the best." Upon its release in 1994, Renaissance: The Mix Collection by Sasha & John Digweed launched the dance music compilation market and went on to become the first ever DJ/Club mix to reach gold status in sales in the UK. The triple-disc set served as a blueprint for the music scene of the time (heralded as the golden age of British dance) and featured works by Moby, Leftfield, Fluke, Bedrock, EMF, Inner City and many more. A decade later, Renaissance celebrates the album's 10-year anniversary with a re-release of The Mix Collection available for the American fans. The new triple - disc set will feature revamped artwork and was re-mastered by the architects themselves, Sasha and John Digweed using modern techniques that weren't available 10 years ago for a stellar sound!

It's just a classic July 22, 2008 Boony (West Side) Even if you don't like all the tracks, (which I don't), you have to understand that this is a 'blueprint' of dance music. This is, plain and simple, "a classic."
The BEST ever!! March 30, 2008 David R. Cannalte (Orlando, fl) I finally ordered this re-issue since I lent my original to a friend and never got it back. After listening to it again tonight i am reminded why this is classified as "THE" mix CD by which all others have been made. Flawless mixing (especially considering it was done WAY before all the technology that abounds today), impeccable track selection (one of the things these guys are masters at...), and an energy flow that is just unbelievable. This is one compilation that has stood the test of time and always will. If you have never gotten a mix compilation, and you're into progressive house, house, electro, trance house, or whatever they are calling it these days, this IS the one to get. I cannot say enough about it. You will not be disappointed.
Great seller! January 7, 2008 Vincent S. Meden Great seller! The item was shipped very quickly and it arrived prior to the estimate that I was given! I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again.
Very dissapointed September 29, 2007 Eli Paldiel 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you into music from Sasha like Northern Exposure and think this is going to be anything like the Sasha and Digweed we have all come to love then please do yourself a favor and save your money. This album sucks, waist of time and gives the creator of the album a bad name. Fancy art cover but that's all it has. What a waist of time
Yikes...Cheers to Electronica's Evolution June 5, 2007 Cloudman (Vancouver, BC) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you recognize the tracks by name and have a strong sense of nostalgia or you are a newcomer and are curious about what electronica sounded like in the early 90's then it may be worth your greenbacks. Otherwise save your pennies on this Renaissance novelty.
Three discs featuring very poorly aged tracks encompassing various genres during their early (but continual) evolution.
I try to stay clear of accusing DJ's (that I also consider artists) of in your face commercialism, but this compilation has me changing my tune slightly. Re-releasing a compilation from 1994 in 2005 seems like an easy way to sucker a few people into buying an old collection of severely outdated tracks. Apparently the market was there as the original release was selling for up to $400 as a collector's item.
If you are curious about the history of electronica, and more specificly, Sasha and Digweed's early (possible their first) commercial release then you may be satified with this three disc set. Otherwise there are much better "Mix Collections" out there that document electronica's evolution.
Disc 1 and 2 get 2/5 stars while disc 3 gets 3/5 stars (just for the fact that it doesn't have multiple re-mixes of the same track on it like discs 1 and 2 do).
