Although Lacking in Originality...This Album Features a Strong Disc 2 March 9, 2008 CloudMan (Sydney, NSW Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've never been overly impressed with Hernan Cattaneo. Although easily one of the better DJ's out of South America, I find his sets and style a little too copy-catish (especially his earlier commerical releases like this one). Disc 1 is nicely mixed, but the track selection was overall average. It unfortunately included some of my least favorite tracks. "You Are Sleeping" reers its ugly head once again and once again damages yet another set. Disc 2 on the other hand is excellent. 75 minutes of music comprised of just nine tracks...unless you are a MOS Athems or The Annual fan...you have to love that. The track selection itself and the layout is fantastic. I could have done with stronger substitutes for "Topaz" and "My Lexicon", but the flanking duo "Chilling Moments" and "Lights Out" and the superbly chosen final 3 tracks "Walking on Fire", "Headstrong" and "Numb" devour these weak tracks with final result being a stong set for Henan Cattaneo.
Disc 1 gets 3/5 stars and disc 2, 4.5/5 stars.
Perfecto has a new rising star on the scene! July 1, 2003 WadeL5P (Atlanta, GA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a huge fan of the Perfecto label and I love what it has produced over the past few years. I purchased this CD along with Seb Fontaine's new one. I am shame to admit it...I like this one better. It is a very deep, dark and sexy CD. This is one of those CDs that you can never grow tired of. Disk 1 is up-beat with familiar sexy house tunes. The 2nd disk gets a little darker, progressive and down-right dirty. Hernan's latin flavor is a great additive. Great mood record for a night of sweaty dancing.
progressive mixing at its best !!!! November 22, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is by far one of the best progressive mixes for the year. Awesome tracks and smooth mixing! There are hundreds of DJ's out there and doesn't take much talent to spin. A real DJ has the "EAR" for good music and knows how to keep the crowd dancing. If you enjoyed other mixes from such DJ's as D:FUSE,Deep Dish or Stephane K and john creamer, you'll love this cd!
Amazing!!! September 20, 2002 Rodelius (Madrid Spain) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of the better dance albums of the year. Both discs are keepers!
Engaging prog-house-trance with disc two a keeper July 27, 2002 Richard Diaz (Centerville, OH United States) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
It's blindingly obvious by now that there are just too many DJs out there, and entirely too many mixes to wade through. And yet so many of these high profile spinners, proudly touting ten thousand-plus record collections, still stick us with a staggering amount of filler drum tracks and incidental pieces notable only for blending unnoticeably into the next. Is it too much to expect a dozen engaging cuts for our eighteen dollars? At least Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto-picked buddy Hernan Cattaneo chooses songs which refuse to noodle off into the background. Careening through proper progressive house doozies "After 2" and "Storyreel," full-on emotive anthems with tough backing, to novelty hooker ode "You Are Sleeping," and sizzling acid house "The Search," he's selected (gasp) actual records to play, even if duff vocal "No More Ghosts," and so-5-years-ago-vogue NASA recording "The Way" are dragged along in the process. Thankfully disc two earns your cash, leading with the rapturous tones of Shmuel Flash 5-star "Chilling Moments" an accordion and chimes-filled operatic vision that harks back to the blissful trance of days gone by. Hot on those heels, the conga-percussion "Lights Out," warm electro "Western Nights" and spellbinding trifecta of "Walking on Fire," massively dubbed out "Headstrong" and epic closer "Numb" reworked by Bedrock production engineer Nick Muir send this set into stereo rewind. Disc 1: 3 stars Disc 2: 4 stars
