Amazon.com Dubbed the It genre of 1999, trance music saw its DJs' bookings rise to unprecedented heights. Though most of the DJs getting recognition were European superstars, Americans like Sandra Collins and Miami's George Acosta have caught a bit of the media hype. Awake displays Acosta's penchant for the superbombastic epics that helped him carve his name at Miami's Shadow Lounge. He plays the kind of trance that is unrelenting, with elongated builds, pregnant pauses punctuated by trebly traces, and hyper melodies. Acosta's style sits somewhere between German pretty boy Paul Van Dyk and big guns Sasha and Digweed, managing to be hard and happy at the same time. Though it's somewhat psychedelic, Awake is classic epic trance, favoring big sounds, big swoops, and big meltdowns over little squiggly noises. --Tricia Romano
Album Description 2000 release from legendary Miami DJ best known for his work with Planet Soul who released the Platinum single 'Set You Free'. 2000 release. Standard jewel case.

Monotonous yes, trance no February 28, 2008 King Matt (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) I was really disappointed in this CD. I was looking for something trance like, along the lines of Digweed, Sasha, or even Claude Young. George Acostas's skills as a DJ are clearly evident. He does a great job. But the track selection was really boring, almost eurotrash. I'm sure I would have enjoyed this show live at a club, but it lacks the depth, complexity, and creativity to make me want to listen to the CD more than once.
Favorite CD for 5 Years Running August 9, 2006 Kitty (Miami, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This has been my favorite CD ever since it came out - it never leaves my car, even when friends beg to borrow it. I can't say enough good things about it. It fits every mood perfectly - when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm angry, when it's raining, when it's sunny, when I'm running late, when I'm taking my time...it's the best driving CD in the world!
I'd Rather Suck on a Urinal Cake than listen to this CD May 28, 2005 Ian S (Northampton, MA) 2 out of 12 found this review helpful
This CD is sooooo bad! I felt like I was playing atari the entire time I was listening to it. Anyone who is into REAL Trance shouldn't buy this CD. The mixing is way off and uhhh it's just bad. Deffinatly not something you would expect from George Acosta.
If this cd doesnt get you moving ...NOTHING will May 9, 2005 Michael Mayhem (Greenville,SC) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
After purchasing "Tranceport",I heard this album playing in Best Buy one day,I had to purchase it right away or I would loose my mind.A buddy of mine working at the store introduced me to this bad ass Miami dj named George Acosta.I put this one in my player, all it took was the 1st 4 songs to get me addicted to trance! No and I repeat NO dj can put out mixes like this ....Acosta is the world's best dj and can mix like no other, the transitions are perfect,it all sounds like one track!George is my favorite dj in which I own every cd of his, this is my 2nd favorite only by a hair to his recently released "Lost World"...Both are incredible and if you plan on getting into Acosta but this one 1st,because it will introduce you to the world of Epic trance.Dont let amateurs fool you into believing that Tiesto or Paul Van Dyk are the best, give this dj a listen and you'll see what I mean by that.If you enjoy Acosta you will love Ferry Corsten and Armin Van Buuren (2 of my favorite dj's)If you are a dance music fan you WILL have this album!
NEVER GETS OLD......! February 14, 2005 D. Waddell (DALLAS) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful

IT'S SOOO DAMN GOOD! I'VE PLAYED IT FOR OTHER FRIENDS AND THEY'RE BLOWN AWAY !!! NOW CONSIDER WHEN THIS CD WENT INTO PRINT !
