| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Gabriel & Dresden's Bloom isn't hugely different from any other post-trance, Global Underground-school dance record. But these two well-known producers (from their work with Britney Spears, Annie Lennox, and others) reach outside the usual thumps to provide bursts of electro-synth and organic, funk-based rhythms. The first disc in the 2-disc set starts strong with the brilliant, self-produced "Arcadia," but gets lazy occasionally (please not another cheesy Sarah McLachlan remix!). Depeche Mode fans might be annoyed that G&D felt it necessary to spin a version of "Here Is the House" (by Andain) that replaces Dave Gahan with diva vocals (or maybe they just couldn't get the rights?). Disc 2 bounces back with "Athena," a blissful head-bobber that makes life seem bright and lovely. Later, against all odds, the duo finds new depth in the endlessly remixed Dido ("Don't Leave Home"). It's the next track though--the squishy and sublime "Sub" from Bigtop--that really gives the dance floor something meaty to chew on. It's a beautiful thing when progressive house at least tries to be truly progressive. --Matthew Cooke
Album Description Gabriel & Dresden met at Miami Beach's Winter Music Conference in 2001 when Josh Gabriel was dishing out white labels of his own tracks & Dave Dresden was scouting new music for Radio 1's Pete Tong. When Tong offered Dresden the opportunity to remix a New Order track, he tapped Gabriel to work with him on it. Three years later, the duo have produced 35 remixes, including Billboard Club Chart no. 1's for Annie Lennox (Pavement Cracks), Jewel (Intuition), Sarah McLachlan (Fallen) and Britney Spears (Me Against The Music). They have also racked up an international pop hit of their own in 2004 as Motorcycle with the club anthem As "The Rush Comes". This is their 1st full length release and it's an amalgamation of the various facets of their career. It includes 5 original G&D songs, tracks from their Motorcycle and Andain side projects as well as their remix work for artists like Dido and Above & Beyond. The 10+ minute remix of Don't Leave Home by Dido is exclusive to this set.

Good remixes May 7, 2007 C. Zwiegel (Djibouti) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I do like the people they remixed, as well as the originals. It truly shows some of the artistic flair that went into the composition of this two disc set.
Masters of the Throb November 28, 2006 J. Marranca (Norwalk, CT, USA) This disk was my introduction to Gabriel & Dresden, and it's a solid piece with some catchy tracks. G&D's dark, throbbing style is very apparent on all songs in this two disk album, and
My heart really belongs to melodic trance, and so this was more an extracurricular purchase for me, to round out the music collection a bit more. Despite some trance-like undertones, this is more of a progressive house outing. Generally, the heavier mixing limits my listening to shorter stints, or encourages me to mix one of the two disks with a variety of other music. This isn't to suggest any shortcoming of G&D, it's just more of a reflection on my preference in electronic music. I prefer a more varied texture and mood from one track to the next.
This is, overall, a solid addition to the collection of anyone fond of electronic music.
Awesome journey August 18, 2006 J. Wahlgren (boston) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This isn't my first introduction to Gabriel and Dresden, as I bought Gabriel and Dresden first, but Bloom has a lot to offer. I know a mix is good when I get lost in it, and I got lost immediately leading myself on a musical journey. All I got to say is Arcadia rocks plus it has Andain and Above and Beyond. A must buy!

TO BLOOM: 1 - To produce or yield flowers 2 - To mature into achievement of one's potential
Does it fulfill the first meaning? ---------------------------------- YES; This is solid uplifting Pro-House with Trance dips all over it.
Does it achieve it's full potential? ------------------------------------ Not quite; I know for a fact Gabriel & Dresden can do better than this. That's why I gave it only four stars
Anyhow, suffice it to say this is good stuff and certainly worth listening to.
a long wait for me... October 15, 2005 etantao (Puerto Rico) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i've wanted this cd for a long time but when ever i went to a buy it they didnt have it on stock..... so here i was a growing fan of G&D and without this cd, finally i got it and all i can say is wow. i think their originals are quite good and their remixes are some of the best in electronic music. so i find great their songs here (individual, together or colaborations) where i feel a bit let down is with the songs from other people. a few of them dont really seem rigth to me but thats only a very minor problem. i'd give it a 4.5 . hopefully i'll be able to see them live soon.
