| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The Originals languished on Motown's roster until Marvin Gaye took an interest in their career in 1968. Soon he'd produced and cowritten two Top 5 soul hits for the smooth quartet. The doo-wop-influenced "Baby I'm for Real" and "The Bells" are hardly the only highlights of this compilation, though--"God Bless Whoever Sent You" and the later disco smash "Down to Love Town" are near classics that deserve the new light that falls on them here. Most rewarding for Gaye fans will be an early, unreleased version of "Just to Keep You Satisfied," a song he later rewrote for Let's Get It On. --Rickey Wright

Just what I wanted! March 10, 2008 Robbie Jones (Altadena, CA USA) I had been looking for music by the Originals for a long time. I was thrilled to get this CD! The price was right, it came quickly in the mail, and I LOVE it. Thank you!
The Originals - A Marvin Gaye Prediction December 24, 2007 Tom M. Jones (Raleigh, NC) To enjoy great music, just sit back and listen. To know great music, find out where it came from. The Originals were just that, an original dynamic blend of the time, Motown, the ballad, basement party music, love and wonder. In so many ways, this collection of sounds is remarkable. For one thing, these guys had a harmony that surpassed many of the groups of their period. Pick any song and listen to how they softly turn it into sugar.
More importantly, the guiding hand of an early, young hit maker, Marvin Gaye, produced what was to become a precursor of his legacy. You hear the feelings and emotion of Mr. Gaye. The big turn for him at Motown was the release of his monster album, "What's Goin' On." Play these two together and the reveal of his influence connects. The Originals are a must have CD for any collection that takes us down memory lane.
Excellent! December 12, 2007 E. Henry One of the greatest CD's to purchase to bring back memories of the 60's. Needs to be in every music lovers library. Excellent!
Marvin Gaye Still Lives September 10, 2007 Hubert Glover (Washington, DC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I did not realize that Marvin Gaye produced a lot of this groups best selling songs and this explains the quality and the timeliness engagement of these tunes. Now I will go back and seek original albums and I find their work astonishing.
Good 'ol Songs July 5, 2007 J. Hampton (DC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This compilation of The Originals is the basis for soul music. Marvin Gaye delivered the right sound and lyrics for this group.
