Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
THESE limited edition Afterclub CDs from Sharam and Dubfire are bonus to their main Toronto mix set and give the Deep Dish duo room to take a more personal approach. Wide-ranging, yet cohesive, they're individual halves of the Deep Dish sound - the music both past and present that makes up their musical whole.

"We just wanted to remind everyone that there is Deep Dish and there is Dubfire and Sharam," says Dubfire, aka Ali Shirazina. "It's just showcasing our individual styles." Both Ali and Sharam were already DJ-ing before they teamed up, he emphasizes and both continue to play separate shows. Afterclubs loose agenda lets Sharam and Dubfire stretch the musical boundaries a little further. Sharams wide-ranging mix takes full advantage - flipping from the airy funk of the classic Masters At Work remix of the Neville Brothers' "Fly Like An Eagle" to something brand new.

Sharam spreads his mix further with tracks like Watkins' gorgeous "Black AM", which soaks a female rock vocal over a snaking, squelching bass. An unreleased mix of Timo Maas' "OCB" adds Giorgio Moroder disco bass to Timo's jingly guitar groove. The mix closes on an upbeat, Middle Eastern mood, with two more Canadian tracks. The whirlwind that is Sultan & The Greek "Wadi" bristles with dramatic wails and Arabic melodies. The Greek's solo release, "Alive" mixes a discordant, fairy tale vocal with pummelling house rhythms and spiralling riffs. It's a broad, confident mix that's best summed up by Sharam himself: "It's retro and old skool and forward thinking at the same time."

4 out of 5 stars Deep Dish Minus Dubfire?   April 2, 2007
Cloudman (Vancouver, BC)
This review is solely for Sharam's Afterclub mix release for the limited edition of GU025: Toronto four disc set. Apparently it has to be purchased separately now.

I differ from most reviewers in that I liked Dubfire's Afterclub mix better than Sharam's. Sharam's Afterclub mix is still packed full of good tracks but not as many great tracks as Dubfire's. However, the inclusion of "You Are Sleeping" (track 11) is what ultimately pushed me to give this album a less that perfect rating. Sorry, but I hate narrative tracks. Listen to it once or twice and you'll find yourself reaching for the skip button.

Sharam's Afterclub mix gets 4/5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars another Deep Dish gem   January 10, 2007
Matt Dean (Cairns, Australia)
Firstly, if you are, like me, & into quality progressive house music then this is a MUST-HAVE in anyone's collection. Deep Dish is true genius!! Whether you're a hoarder of their work or not, you will know that these two guys have released a bevvy of seamless CD's. I have been searching for both these CD's for ages & was amazed to find them still available. This being one of two "Afterclub" accompaniments to their "Global Underground - Toronto" release. Mixed by Sharam (the other by Dubfire), it amazes me how they both manage to capture your interest with the first track & slowly take you on an enigmatic journey into deep, tribal, hypnotic house. Standout tracks from the likes of the self-titled "Solar Plexus" (which 'rattles' along), "Black AM" by Watkins (an awesome remix of a classic), "Soft Pleasure" by The Porn Headquarters (what I would call 'groovy' deep-funk), "You Are Sleeping" by PQM (Luke Chable 'carves-up' a much deeper mix than previously heard on "Hernan Cattaneo - South America") & finally "Alive" by The Greek ends the set with a thumping bass-line washed over with the ghostly voice of Stephanie Vezina.
The only criticism I have with this release, as with any Deep Dish CD, is that you just don't want to "get off the train once you've boarded". Their mixing is second-to-none, combined with a track selection to keep any party going.
If you 'dig' this then do yourself a favour and check out "Global Underground - Deep Dish - Toronto", i believe to be their BEST release to date. Also worth a mention, in the same series "Global Underground - Sharam - Dubai" (most recent release) & one of their early gems "Penetrate Deeper"; a smooth funky house collection.
Deep Dish - you ROCK!!!
