Amazon.com On this mix, progressive house-trance DJ Danny Tenaglia goes for an organic, R&B-tinged sound, incorporating Oleta Adams and Ce Ce Peniston with other, more esoteric selections. The source material isn't manipulated via turntables, EQ'ing, and scratch mixing, but rather filtered through sequenced and produced studio processes. The result is often effective and devastatingly sensual, like when the hypnotic "Going Round" coalesces with an understated, shuffling rhythm, building into a dreamy, echo-laden fadeout. Tenaglia's selections alternately benefit and suffer without the layers of house beats and atmospherics that usually disguise a song's less compelling aspects. "Rhythm of Life" pulses with Adams's huge alto, playing off a spare set of piano chords and understated bongo drums, but "Bang Bang Your Mine" sounds silly, as a nakedly inane vocal line is left to cringe in the cold light of an unforgiving mix. Still, when it works, Tenaglia finds a blissful power in the music that escapes most DJs, leaving behind a sunny glow that's just as agreeable in the middle of a summer day as it is during a sweaty night on the dance floor. --Matthew Cooke

Well Mixed But Mediocre Track Selection April 26, 2007 CloudMan (Sydney, NSW Australia) It's difficult to put out a really bad chillout album. On the other hand, the same is true for compiling an extraordinary chillout album.
Back to Mine by Danny Tenaglia falls somewhere between average and very good. It was interesting (to me at least) that his pattern of mixing transferred over to this genre of electronica. I really like Tenaglia as a DJ, but one thing that I constantly note in his mixes is that the first half is usually phenomenal while the second half can lose my interest at times. I mostly attribute this to track selection.
The first 6 tracks of this album are great. The 7th track, approximately half way through sees the album take a turn for the worse. Horrible track. For the remainder of the album, the tracks are pretty average. Not great, but not horrible either.
Is it worth buying the album? If you like to collect your favorite DJ's various productions...then yes. This is definitely a different side to Danny Tenaglia. Otherwise, there are a ton of better chillout compilations out there.
Overall, I give this one 3.5/5 stars.
Rule 1: Lay your expectations aside... January 22, 2005 A. Ort (Youngstown, Ohio) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Since when do we have to box these artists in. Techno used to be the medium for those outside the box. Well, it is now the box...so Mr. Tenaglia got back outside that box.
If you want trance, get his GU stuff or go see him live (something I'm in no position to do). This is not that. But that is not a bad thing. I'll be honest, at first I didn't get this CD. I expected Athens or London. So it sat on my shelf.
I was doing some writing one night and popped this into my headphones. It was great, a throwback to a simpler time. There are some good pop tunes on here, some soulful divas, even some Arabic grooves thrown in to boot. Besides, find me one other artist who has the ability to weave an 'Allahu Akbar' into the mix and have it sound so good. It's great for just chilling.
My only complaint would be the mixing. Not sure if it's meant to be a full mix but there are some fade-outs that I'm not used to. It's not a bad thing, really, but it's kind of like making your own mix tape at home.
I will say, however, that these DJs have more music on hand then I even know exists. For that reason, the Back to Mine series is a great buy. I 'discovered' Beth Orton (from the Chemical Brothers first CD) after getting Everything But The Girl's mix and Jim White from Morcheeba's mix.

Tenaglia is the master of his craft, and this chillout mix showcases his abilities in a subtle, laid back album that is perfect for your home, car or office! In fact, this music will not offend anyone and is guaranteed to improve the atmosphere in any location.
An Ibizan kool cocktail of mellow tones and NY groove! January 28, 2002 Craig Wilde (Glasgow, Scotland United Kingdom) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Danny put's together a deep set of ecclectic tunes to chill you out whilst keeping you hot! The Opening Track is New York Skylines and Cocktails with the Fashion Set! Pure Hollywood Grace...then it's the beats from the basement that capture your soul and keep you bouncing round the room. This is essential after party fodder...The Flip side of Danny.Olleta Adams' Rythm of Life is placed two thirds of the way through and lifts the crowd to a sexy uplifting highpoint...before the he takes you to an Eygptian Oasis for that final drink - then you drift off to some Latin quarter for a little Samba and all you can hear as the CD closes is the gramaphone needle ...and you ask yourself " Did I just dream all that?" Buy this CD and your credability goes up three Points! Danny Tenaglia is one of the worlds great DJ's add this to your CD collection and be more than just the host with the Cafe Del Mar Collection! Wilde x
Different November 29, 2001 Jose M. Pelaez (New York, NY United States) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
The CD was very different in a sense. Though it wasn't really to my taste, I bought it going on the Tenaglia name rather than actually researching the album. I just wanted another disc to add to my trance collection, and it fails to meet that purpose. But, it does do something else, it opens the listener up to a different kind of Danny Tenaglia. The songs are smooth and nice, good for a drive in the city at night with your favorite lady friend. It's relaxing, and it takes you away. So if you ever grow tired of the basslines and rhythms of traditional house music this CD is for you. If you want just an addition to your Trance collection I highly recommend GU Athens.
