Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Their third studio album, following 2006's "Classics." The characteristic guitar style is still present here, but there are an abundance of new textures, from Wurlitzer and mellotron to live rather than programmed percussion. The album will be preceded by the release of the limited edition 7-inch "Shiller", a completely beatless track which opens the new album.

Album Description
LP3 is the third studio album from Ratatat, the follow-up to 2006's Classics and 2004's self-titled debut. Since the release of Classics, Ratatat have toured relentlessly, headlining shows around the world. They have added their unique sound to a remix of Bjork's `Wanderlust' and released the second in their acclaimed `Remixes' series, featuring bootleg remixes of Notorious BIG and Young Buck among others. 'Remixes Volume II' also featured exclusive new freestyles from Beans (Warp) and Despot (DefJux).

5 out of 5 stars better than the last album!   November 29, 2008
Richard A. Portillo II (walhonding, OH)
i was wary at first, but plain and simple, this album has much more depth and new concepts. its lovely. besties, mirando and shiller and mumtaz khan. but its all good (besides black heroes that song title makes me sound racist)

3 out of 5 stars It's ok, not as good as "Classics" or "Ratatat" though...   November 25, 2008
Brian Ecker (Seattle, WA USA)
LP3 is an /ok/ Ratatat album. It has the familiar sound, some good beats, but the mix of real-world and electronic sounds feels tilted too much to the electronic, and the "feel" of the album seems a little off.

Looking back, Ratatat (the first/self-titled album), was notable for it's strong beat and good mix of guitars and synthesizers. Even the downbeat songs (like "Desert Eagle" and "Spanish Armada") still had a distinctive feel to them. The next album, Classics, was even better. The music showed more skill and confidence, backed by strong rhythms. A number of songs sported a great crescendo ("Montanita" and "Nostrand" come to mind).

LP3 seems to try that crescendo approach with a number of songs, but they never take off. "Shiller" feels like it should take off at any moment but seems stuck on the ground. "Mirando" sounds like Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice", but without the consistency. That said, there are a few good tracks. Falcon Jab has a good beat and Dura's instrumental variety pays off. Overall LP3 is ok, but if you're new to Ratatat, start with Classics or the self-titled release first.

5 out of 5 stars Great album!   September 11, 2008

If you already own anything by these guys then you'll recognize the sound. This album grows a little bit more than previous releases. A lot more layering. Lots of reversed tracks to make for an eerie feel.

Overall positive vibe for the album. I still listen to it a few times a week.

Best part this record comes with a MP3 download code! Good for 3 downloads of a 76.9mb zip file

These guys are amazing. Groovy, fascinating, hip, psychedelic. I love all Rat's releases, but this is beyond those first two releases. LP3 is deeper, richer, still great to move your hips to. Beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars You won't miss the lyrics!   August 28, 2008

I was first introduced to Ratatat when my friend brought his iPod and docking station into our class in order to play music - radio in Boise isn't too great. I instantly had to find out what that was ("Lex" on Classics). I then bought that album and loved it.
This one is better. They've gone more for a hip-hop feel on some of the songs, but some are completely different. They have more beeps and clicks, and a lot more variety between songs. If you want a good sampler of the album, listen to track 2 (Falcon Jab) and track 11 (Mumtaz Khan).
