Oakey's entire live set? May 14, 2001 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'm trying to find Oakey's entire uncut live set from Creamfields 2000. I know this has parts, is complete live set available? This is a great CD for anyone who live good DJ's such as Oakenfold in a live atmosphere.
Wish I was there... September 14, 2000 Andrew M. Schirmer (Seattle, WA USA) Cream Records is really starting to come into their own here; releasing 7 compilations in a year. That's a lot, though it's a fraction of what Ministry of Sound churns out for the clubbers, and thank God for that. Cream compilations tend to have less tracks, giving each tune a bit more time. They've also come to feature more progressive tunes rather than the trance bangers of the past, and this is no accident. 2000 was the year of truly progressive sessions. For those of you who don't know, "Creamfields" is a rave held by Liverpool superclub Cream every year in August since 1998. Think of it as an dance music Woodstock. Every DJ who's anybody at all from Paul Oakenfold to John Kelly to Danny Rampling is there. This year every dance act from Basement Jaxx to Death in Vegas to Spiller was there. It's quite an event...I think there's like four-five stages. This compilation celebrates the occasion. How does it hold up? Beginning with the anthem of the summer, Spiller's "Groovejet," one would think that this mix is too disco-bouncy. That vibe continues with South Street Player's "Who Keeps Changing Your Mind" which has the be one of the best garage tunes in recent memory. But as this first disc progresses it gets darker and deeper. Morel's "True" (also on John Digweed's "Bedrock" compilation), the Futureshock Remix of Underworld's "Cowgirl" both are dark stormers in their own right. Disc two gets underway with the Skip Raider's Remix of Midfield's "Reach Out" and gives us a more trancey vibe with tunes like Bedrock's "Voices," and SuReal's "You Take My Breath Away." All in all a good compilation. Anyone interested in clubbing, Cream, or UK house/trance music in general should pick it up.
