Catchy ear candy October 25, 2008 J. Fowler (Richmond, VA) If you like New Order, you will like this release. It has enough variety among the versions of the tune to make it worthwhile, as a single. You will miss Peter Hook's deft bass lines, but Blank and Jones do a nice job of putting these tracks together. Is the guitar Bernard Sumner? It's a nice part, regardless.
W O W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! July 8, 2008 The Straw Man (Aloof October on April's Birthday) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have to be honest, besides of some remixes and working with Robert Smith a few years back on new versions of "A Forest", I am not too keen on Blank + Jones. However after this song "Miracle Drug", I would say they are amazing musicians. However, I have to be honest; the reason I was interested and bought this EP/Import single was Bernard Sumner. I have been a fan of Bernard Sumner's vocals for years. Many of you might know him as the voice of New Order and/or Electronic.
The lyrics of this song "Miracle Drug" were penned and sung by Bernard Sumner where the music was composed by Blank + Jones. The result is an alternative-electronic dance track. The music gets your feet thumping and Sumner's singing is almost like a story-telling or an allegory. From what I understand New Order has broken up (again), so I don't know what the future of the band is or is not. However, I did read that Bernard Sumner is working on another side project. This single should satisfy fans until that endeavor comes to light. As for Blank + Jones, if their new album is anything like this song, I am all for it.
As for the CD itself, none of the remixes are bad. Yup, you read it right NONE OF THE REMIXES ARE BAD. I am not sure about other people who purchase CD singles/EPs/Imports or whatever, but there are always a couple of versions that suck. For instance, the same beat over and over again for eight minutes, that doesn't slightly resemble the carnation of the song, it attempts to portray. Or it repeats the same word myriad times until you have the desire to punch the stereo. The former or the latter doesn't happen on this CD, great beats and all vocals are present.
The price of this Import might seem high, but I want to let you know that the CD runs just under forty minutes, not bad for something that is advertised as a "single". I highly recommend.
